Support Dr. Megan’s business Expansion

Hey There!

I’m Dr. Megan Covington, founder and CEO of The Pit Bull Doctor. I coach pit bull owners on how to better understand their dogs, address behavior issues, and create more harmony within their homes. My goal is to help pit bull owners become better and more informed leaders for their dogs. I also consult and partner with pet-friendly businesses to foster more safety and lower the likelihood and risk of disputes due to poor dog ownership and aggressive dog behavior through education.

But I wasn’t always an entrepreneur, it’s been a long journey.

Why I Founded The Pit Bull Doctor

Shortly after graduating with my PhD, I decided to bring a dog into my life to celebrate my accomplishment and mark my new life journey. When thinking about the breed that best fit me, I landed on a pit bull type dog and quickly learned the challenges I would encounter navigating society with a pit bull type dog due to long-standing stereotypes and beliefs that all pit bull type dogs are the same and are inherently aggressive, dangerous, and vicious.

More than five different breeds of dogs are traditionally classified as β€œpit bull.” Their temperaments, characteristics, and behavior vary from dog to dog about as much as ours do from human-to-human. The issue I had was that breed-specific-legislation and breed restrictions make it difficult for people to obtain housing  if they are not property owners Also, their housing can be removed from them at any point based on stereotypes about their dogs behavior with no assessment or consideration of the dog’s individual traits. These laws are most impactful to people from marginalized communities who often faced obstacles when trying to care for themselves and their pets.

Over the past three years, I have provided pit bull training and consulting services throughout the Atlanta metro area. Through my work, I’ve seen firsthand how proper training and support can transform the relationship between owners and their dogs and improve how families navigate through society.

Here are some of the amazing clients and transformations I’ve had the opportunity to support:
